The furor behind SiCKO, Michael Moore’s documentary on the US health-care system, has resulted in a debate between Moore and CNN. Moore’s documentary compares the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations and somewhere down the line criticize’s the US health-care system for its deficiencies.
Well, recently my cousin sister who lives in the US delivered a baby boy, who apparently suffered from skull damage during delivery due to the neglegence of the attending doctor(s). How unprofessional is that? Things go wrong at times, but when it comes to someone’s life, I for one cannot imagine something like this happening in the US (ranked 37th in the WHO health-care list, with Americans having a life expectancy of 77.9 years). I hope my cousins take legal action against the hospital.
Isn’t the very measure of a great society is in how its government and people take care of those who cannot take care of themselves?
