Religion and science, culture and belief. These attributes have a vast influence on each of us. It turns out that we are all in the middle of a podcast from God!
So when I can across this far-fetched yet interesting research paper (link below) titled – Are we living in a computer simulation?, I was instantly drawn towards the world of Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and the Oracle. Think about it for a second, can the plot of the blockbuster movie “The Matrix” be a reality? Is it remotely possible that the whole human race is living in a computer simulation? Sounds bizzare and unrealistic?
A research paper by Nick Bostrom from the Department of Philosophy, Oxford University, argues that at least one of the following propositions is true: (1) the human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching a “posthuman†stage; (2) any posthuman civilization is extremely unlikely to run a significant number of simulations of their evolutionary history (or variations thereof); (3) we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. It follows that the belief that there is a significant chance that we will one day become posthumans who run ancestor-simulations is false, unless we are currently living in a simulation.
Morpheus: The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.
